Victoria Film Festival

Come for a relaxing visit in a stylish atmosphere, enjoy lunch or afternoon tea, or an intriguing browse through unique shops to pick up fresh flowers and produce, fine foods and wines to go. If you have time, stop by for a game of mini golf.

The Victoria Independent Film & Video Festival is doing its part to inspire Canada’s next generation of filmmakers.

Jumpcuts – a festival for budding Gus Van Sants and Atom Egoyans ages seven to 15 – takes place June 9-10 at Market Square.

There will be hands-on workshops, demonstrations and free screenings throughout the festival.

Also taking place will be The Screen Writing Weekend, aimed at filmmakers ages 12-15. It involves eight hours of intensive work-shopping with professional writer David Geary (Shortland Street, Mercy Peak, Jackson’s Wharf). However, there is only one class available to 12 students.

Also on the weekend will be a demonstration by seasoned stunt performer Peter Abraham, who will re-enact a Star Wars lightsaber battle in his Stunt Workshop. This portion will also allow parents to get in on the action.

The festival has more than 18 workshops available but space is limited.
